After launching in Japan, Netflix has strived to be the quintessential service of Japanese streaming content since 2015. Particularly for anime, the streaming service juggernaut has aggressively put their stamp in the genre with their now colossal slate of original anime series. Now in the past week, Netflix has announced the upcoming release of several exciting new anime series including a brand-new series of Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya. This new upcoming new series is crafted as an all-new CG remake series of Masami Kurumada’s Saint Seiya manga with Toei Animation and Netflix has collaborating on the project for a global launch next Summer. It’s official. The world of Dragon Ball will soon be showcased on the national stage when the legendary hero, Goku, makes his debut in the 92nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year! Goku in his Super Saiyan Blue form from the anime series Dragon Ball Super will be the newest balloon in a lineup that is populated with other iconic characters such as Charlie Brown, Spongebob Squarepants, and Ronald McDonald.
An annual tradition that began in 1924, the massive three-hour event of the Macy’s Parade will start its course from the heart of Central Park in Manhattan to Macy’s Herald Square. Goku’s balloon will stand at over 50 feet tall, float through New York City by about 90 parade handlers, while being watched by millions from the ground and on national television.
The road to the final design of the balloon was a meticulous and intense process in order to give Goku a posture and expression that will be the perfect depiction of the character for his parade debut. Representatives from Toei Animation worked with Macy’s Studio artists to finalize the clay model design of Goku based on drawings and color palettes. Many adjustments and versions were made before the final version of Goku was decided. The process took 3-4 days.

In December of 2017, Toei Animation announced that the 20th Dragon Ball feature film was “in production”. Now, the official website for the 20th film has been released, along with a tentative title, Japan release date, a new look at Goku, and new comments by legendary Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.
The new Dragon Ball film is slated to arrive in Japan on December 14, 2018. The new visual of Goku has a tagline that reads “’Super’ movie version begins.” Fans can now explore the official website, http://dbmovie-20th.com, for more upcoming news and visuals.
The movie is tentatively titled “Dragon Ball Super” with original script, screenplay, and character designs from creator Akira Toriyama. The director of the film is Tatsuya Nagamine, known for his direction on Saint Seiya Omega, One Piece Film Z, and episodes of the Dragon Ball Super anime series. Coming back to the Japanese voice of Son Goku is celebrated voice actress Masako Nozawa.

Dragon Ball’s 20th feature film has been revealed! Today, news of the film was announced at Jump Festa 2018 in Japan. The film is currently in production, which will serve as a commemoration for decades of legendary titles. Since 1986, the series has introduced many memorable and beloved characters to countless die-hard fans. The recent years have witnessed a new wave of renaissance for the Dragon Ball series. “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods”, released in 2013, was a welcomed return to the big screen for the first time in 17 years. “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F” followed that up with more success in 2015. From then on, Dragon Ball has continued to further expand their world; leading to the current acclaimed broadcast, “Dragon Ball Super”.
The team behind the new film will be making intensive efforts to ensure that the scale and the quality is the best of the series. Akira Toriyama, the original author of Dragon Ball, will lead the original story, screenplay, and character design.
The theme for this remarkable new film will be “Saiyan”, the strongest race in the universe. Since “Battle of the Gods”, Goku has undergone new forms from Super Saiyan God to Super Saiyan Blue to other evolved forms that have gone up against many invincible warriors from multiple universes. This new story will focus on the origin of the Saiyans’ strength and what it means to be Saiyan.
